Accuracy matters more than preserving a neat first draft. If a factual point needs correcting, clarifying, or updating, we change the article and note the update where appropriate.
Corrections
If a story contains a factual error, we correct it as soon as possible and update the visible article information where the change is material.
Clarifications
If wording could mislead even when technically accurate, we clarify the passage rather than leaving avoidable ambiguity in place.
Substantial updates
When the substance of a live news article changes, we use a visible updated time rather than implying the original publication time tells the whole story.
